Symptoms

All client workstations meet minimum system requirements for supported Windows OSes, but media still will not play or only plays on selected workstations. This can particularly occur on Novell NetWare networks, where the NetBIOS protocol (“Client for Microsoft Networks”) can often be disabled.

Cause

 May be due to any of these causes:

  1. “Client for Microsoft Networks” is not installed on client machines. “Client for Microsoft Networks” enables the NetBIOS protocol. NetBIOS is required for Montage to serve its media files to client machines.
  2. Proxy (eg, Content-Filtering System) - Many organizations use content-filtering system to block certain Internet features or sites. If not configured correctly, these can block SAFARI Montage playback.
  3. Spyware

Solution

  1. Install “Client for Microsoft Networks” into your LAN Properties. On Windows XP, this is accomplished by going into Control Panel > Network Connections. Right-click on “Local Area Network” and choose “Properties”. In the “General” tab, click the “Install…” button. Select “Client” and click the “Add…” button. Choose “Client for Microsoft Networks” from the list and click OK until all dialog boxes are closed. On Windows Vista, go into Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center, then click “Manage network connections” in the left-hand menu. Continue as you would in Windows XP.
  2. Content Filtering System - Add SAFARI Montage’s hostname or IP address to the exclude or safe lists. This will circumvent any content filtering for the SAFARI Montage system.
  3. Anti-Spyware - Add SAFARI Montage’s hostname or IP address to the Exclude or Safe Lists.
  4. Anti-Virus - Add SAFARI Montage’s hostname or IP address to the Exclude or Safe Lists.
